Good news is, yes, it can be done with code.
Better news is, it's unnecessary because all db's are already in the catalog. Most catalog views include this condition in the selection formula:
!(DBListInCatalog = "0")
where DBListInCatalog corresponds the checkbox you're talking about. You can change you view to include documents regardless of the DBListInCatalog flag and you're all set.
